Nomashawekazi Damasane
Nomashawekazi Michelle Siqabuziwenkosi Damasane is one of the youngest published writers to come out of Zimbabwe. At 20 she graces Ibumba Festival to launch her debut book that is “a journey through words that makes one see life through the ‘I’ of themselves and the eye of poetry. It speaks about the issues that shape people. It is about sadness, joy, happiness, confusion, growth, fear, strength, faith, hope, and love. It is about you and me.”
“Some of the poetry was inspired by issues that surround young girls such as getting their hearts broken by boys and their internal thoughts. Others inspired by my faith in the Creator, Christ. Inspired by my understanding of what love, joy and peace is. Others still inspired by my surroundings and the people I come into contact with.”
Nomashawekazi is currently studying toward a B.A degree in Drama and Music at Rhodes University. She is daughter to Reverend Paul Damasane and she describes herself as royalty at its best, the purest definition of love, the exquisite form of beauty, just fabulous like that, a shining star, and glittering diamond unearthed.
